South African Railways GCA Garratt
  The GCA Garratt was an improved design by Col. Collins of his one off experimental Class GC. This class was built between 1927 and 1928 by Fried Krupp of Essen. They were originally intended for service on the Natal South Coast, hauling light goods and passenger trains. Some of the class were employed in the Eastern Transvaal, particularly on the branch to Graskop. They had a tractive effort of 28,470 lbs at 75% of maximum boiler pressure of 180 p.s.i. The entire class was withdrawn in 1978.

This locomotive kit is manufactured by DJH Engineering in the United Kingdom out of etched brass, with lost wax and white metal cast details. The rear engine unit is powered by a Mashima motor with a worm and pinion drive. The valve gear and motion are etched nickel silver. RP25 wheels and Kadee No.5 couplers are included with the kit. The kit is designed to run on 16.5 mm gauge H.O. track.

Precision Miniatures offers a ready to run version of this locomotive in 16.5mm gauge only.    Precision Miniatures have modified the ready to run locomotive to enable it to negotiate tighter radius curves than the supplied kit.   We are currently working on the prototype of the 12 mm version, and will announce its availability on this website.
